Planning to move to Kathmandu for remote work? Visa, SIM, accommodation, co-working, and community — your first-month checklist.

Published March 6, 2026 · 47 views

Moving to Kathmandu as a digital nomad is easier than you might think. This checklist covers what to do in your first month: visa, SIM, accommodation, co-working, and community.

Week 1: Arrival and basics

Get your tourist visa on arrival (30 or 90 days) at Tribhuvan Airport. Buy a Ncell or Ntc SIM at the airport or in town. Book a guesthouse or Airbnb for the first 1–2 weeks in Thamel, Lazimpat, or Boudha while you look for longer-term accommodation.

Week 2: Co-working and connectivity

Try day passes at 2–3 co-working spaces (see our Kathmandu co-working guide). Check WiFi speed and power backup. Join the DigiNomads Nepal community and sign up for the newsletter for events and tips.

Weeks 3–4: Settling in

Negotiate a monthly rate for accommodation or move to a short-term rental. Open a local bank account if you plan to stay 3+ months (optional). Extend your visa at the Department of Immigration in Lazimpat if needed.
