Nepal Digital Nomad Visa 2026 — Your Complete Guide
There is no dedicated digital nomad visa for Nepal — but the tourist visa is one of the most flexible in Asia. Here is everything you need to know about legally living and working remotely from Nepal in 2026.
Nepal does not have a dedicated digital nomad visa — but its tourist visa is one of the most flexible long-stay options in Asia, and most nomads use it without issue. Here is the complete picture for 2026.
What visa do digital nomads use in Nepal?
The standard tourist visa on arrival is what virtually all digital nomads use. It is available at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA) in Kathmandu and at major land border crossings.
- 15-day visa: $25 USD
- 30-day visa: $40 USD
- 90-day visa: $100 USD
You can extend your visa at the Department of Immigration in Kathmandu (Lazimpat) or Pokhara. Extensions cost $3/day for the first 60 days, $5/day thereafter. Maximum stay: 150 days per visa year (fiscal year: mid-July to mid-July).
Is working remotely on a tourist visa legal?
Nepal does not have laws specifically prohibiting remote work for foreign clients on a tourist visa. The tourist visa allows you to stay in Nepal; your income comes from abroad. This is the standard practice for digital nomads globally, and Nepal has not enforced against it. That said, this is not legal advice — consult a lawyer for your specific situation.
Is there a Nepal digital nomad visa coming?
As of 2026, Nepal has discussed introducing a long-term nomad or entrepreneur visa but has not implemented one. Keep an eye on the Department of Immigration website for updates.
Nepal freelancer / business visa
If you are running a Nepal-registered business or working for a Nepal-based employer, you would need a work permit. Most nomads earning from clients outside Nepal do not require this.
Visa extension process (step by step)
- Go to the Department of Immigration, Lazimpat, Kathmandu (open Sunday–Friday, 10am–4pm)
- Fill the extension form at the counter
- Submit: passport + 1 passport photo + hotel letter + USD cash
- Pay the fee ($3/day × number of days)
- Collect passport with extension stamp same day or next day
Tips from nomads who have done it
- Get the 90-day visa on arrival if you plan to stay long — fewer immigration trips
- Bring two passport photos just in case
- Arrive at immigration by 10am — queues build up by midday
- Keep a copy of all hotel receipts and lease agreements
- You cannot carry over unused days to the next visa year — each year starts fresh
Entry and exit stamps
Nepal records all entries and exits. You can re-enter Nepal multiple times within your visa year, but your total stay cannot exceed 150 days. Keep track of your days if you are close to the limit.
