Wise, Revolut & Getting Paid as a Digital Nomad in Nepal
Which payment and money transfer apps actually work well from Nepal? A practical guide to Wise, Revolut, PayPal, and receiving client payments as a remote worker.
Receiving Payments and Managing Money from Nepal
As a digital nomad in Nepal, you will typically earn in foreign currency (USD, EUR, GBP) and spend in Nepali rupees (NPR). Here is what works in 2026.
Best tools for digital nomads in Nepal
- Wise (TransferWise) — Best overall for nomads. Send and receive in 50+ currencies, convert to NPR at mid-market rates. Wise debit card for ATM withdrawals. Low fees. Works reliably from Nepal.
- Revolut — Good for EU/UK nomads. Up to £800/month free ATM withdrawals on standard plan. Good exchange rates. No NPR account, but withdraw rupees from any ATM.
- PayPal — Widely used by clients but not ideal for Nepal. Fees are high (3–5%) and NPR withdrawals to a local bank can be slow and have limits. Use it to receive payments then transfer to Wise.
- Payoneer — Popular with freelancers on Upwork, Fiverr, and Amazon. Can receive payments from platforms and withdraw via local banks or ATMs. Moderate fees.
Withdrawing rupees in Nepal
Most international cards (Visa/Mastercard) work at ATMs in Kathmandu and Pokhara. Typical ATM fee: NPR 500 ($3.75) per withdrawal on top of your card's foreign transaction fee. Use a Wise or Revolut card to minimise these. Avoid airport exchange counters — rates are poor.
Opening a Nepal bank account
Possible with a tourist visa at Standard Chartered, NMB, or Nabil Bank. Requires passport and hotel/rental letter. Useful if you have NPR income or want to receive local transfers. Most nomads do not need this — Wise/ATM is simpler.
Invoicing clients
Invoice in your client's currency. Receive via Wise or Payoneer. Keep records of income for your home country tax filing. Nepal does not tax foreign-sourced income for non-residents.
