Banking for Digital Nomads in Nepal

Nepal's banking system has improved significantly. Here's what you need to know about accessing and managing money during your stay.

ATMs

ATMs are widely available in Kathmandu and Pokhara. Most accept Visa, Mastercard, and Maestro. Withdrawal limits are typically NPR 10,000–35,000 ($75–$260) per transaction. Standard Bank, NMB, and Global IME Bank ATMs tend to have higher limits.

Best cards for Nepal

  • Wise Debit Card — Best exchange rates, low fees
  • Charles Schwab (US residents) — Reimburses all ATM fees worldwide
  • Revolut — Good rates with a monthly free ATM withdrawal limit

Opening a local bank account

Foreigners on a tourist visa can open a non-resident account with Standard Chartered or NMB Bank. You'll need your passport, visa, and proof of address (hotel letter works).
