Nepal Weather Guide for Digital Nomads: Best and Worst Months to Visit
Get the timing right and you'll work from mountain-view cafes in perfect weather. Get it wrong and you're fighting humidity or hazy skies. Here's a month-by-month breakdown of Nepal's weather for remote workers.
Nepal's climate is one of the most important factors to plan around as a digital nomad. Get the timing right and you'll be working from mountain-view cafés in crisp autumn air. Get it wrong and you're battling humidity, power disruptions, or hazy spring skies.
Nepal's Four Seasons at a Glance
- Spring (March–May): Warm, flowers in bloom, some haze in the valleys. Good for co-working indoors but spring smog (see below) is worth planning around.
- Monsoon (June–August): Heavy rain, lush landscapes, occasional power disruptions. Budget costs drop significantly — see our cost of living guide for seasonal price differences.
- Autumn (September–November): The golden season. Clear skies, cool temperatures, the best mountain views of the year.
- Winter (December–February): Cold mornings in Kathmandu, misty in Pokhara. Heating in co-working spaces varies — confirm before committing to a long membership.
Kathmandu — Month by Month
Kathmandu sits at 1,400m altitude, which gives it a mild year-round climate. Temperatures range from 2°C on winter nights to 30°C in the pre-monsoon heat. The city avoids the extreme heat of the lowlands.
Best months for nomads: October, November, February, March. Clear air, comfortable temperatures, and full co-working availability.
Challenging months: June–July bring significant rain and occasional infrastructure delays. January can feel cold in older buildings without central heating.
Pokhara — Month by Month
Pokhara sits at 820m — warmer than Kathmandu and noticeably wetter. The Annapurna range is dramatically visible from October to March.
Best months: October, November, March. Warm enough for lakeside café work, cool enough to stay comfortable, and the mountain views are spectacular.
Monsoon note: Pokhara receives more rainfall than almost any other city in Nepal. From June to August, expect daily heavy rain. This is when indoor co-working spaces really earn their keep.
Bandipur, Chitwan, and Ilam
Bandipur sits at 1,030m with cleaner air and far fewer tourists outside trekking season. Avoid monsoon if you need reliable power. Chitwan is hot and humid — good for an occasional change of scene in winter. Ilam in the east has a cool, misty tea-country climate year-round.
Best Overall Months to Be in Nepal
For digital nomads, October–November and February–April are the clear sweet spots: stable internet, comfortable temperatures, clean air, and Nepal's best scenery. If you're on a budget, monsoon season (June–August) offers the lowest prices across accommodation, co-working, and food — and modern fibre internet handles the rain just fine.
